Ward has A-tier arm strength but needs years of work otherwise

Hayden's Analysis

Ward had a very difficult rookie season. Out of 41 qualifiers, he was the QB38 in EPA per dropback (-0.19), 39th in passing success rate (37%), and 40th in catchable ball rate (60%). The Titans coaching staff, OL, and pass catching group was arguably the worst in the NFL, but we can still study Ward by himself here. On film, Ward is a risk-taking gunslinger with unbelievable arm strength and on-the-run throwing ability. He can whip the ball on a line down the seam with very little wind up. He also made Sports Center Top 10 throws while moving to his right (and left!) when the initial play broke down. He was willing to take some big hits to attempt some throws, and there's no doubting his power as he attempts tight-window throws. All this gives him a ceiling. His floor remains low, however. His throwing motion is inconsistent, which led to inaccuracies to all levels. Even after factoring in how aggressive his throws were, Ward's completion percentage over expected was 35th out of 41 QBs. The ball never died on him. It was more about throwing without touch or by squeezing some throws in after being a tad late. With more experience, Ward's accuracy should improve to some degree. He wasn't reading things out at an average starting level, which led to a really bad Pick 6 on a check down and then some dead-on-arrival attempts into coverage. On other dropbacks, there was a breaking route that'd come open, but he wouldn't pull the trigger on time, leading to pressure. Ward's stats under pressure were horrific. Beyond just getting the ball out, Ward had a 2025-leading 11 fumbles. Some came from big hits. Others came from simply dropping the ball while winding up or running. It's worth noting his hand size was in the bottom 8th percentile. The Titans' OL last year was bottom-3, and it absolutely looks like a bottom-3 unit again in 2026. The starting center is a create-a-name player, and both tackles haven't lived up to their supreme investments. That said, 4th-overall pick WR Carnell Tate and slot Wan'Dale Robinson are clear upgrades over their terrible WR corps from 2025. There were some coverage sacks or wasted great throws due to drops. Tate is a big presence with a good feel for zone, which is exactly what Ward needs to feel calmer. Ward needs to play a calmer and more structured brand of football to take the next leap, even if he's flashing some incredible plays. His rookie season was stylistically similar to Caleb Williams' but Ward does not have the same level of athleticism, so the gap must close in the standard dropback game. I have my reservations that happens with this OL and this early into his career. Ward feels like a fun, multi-year project who can go toe-to-toe with their best 10 plays of the season. I am not buying Ward as fantasy's QB22, even if his 17.5 passing touchdowns feels light in the Underdog Pick'em lobby.
