Hubbard isn't as fun as theoretical Brooks but has a fantasy RB2 history
The Panthers fall in and out of love with Hubbard. Here's the timeline: Hubbard played 77% of snaps in 2024, which was the first year with the current coaching staff. He was half PPR's per-game RB12 on RB7 usage, while being the RB4 in rush yards over expected (+24%). He then opened 2025 ahead of Rico Dowdle playing 61% snaps, leading to RB19 fantasy points on RB22 usage in the first 4 weeks. He was running well with a +23% rush yards over expected. Then he picked up an injury. His return was ugly, ultimately losing the starting job to the red-hot Dowdle. Hubbard only had 50+ total yards in just one regular season game after Dowdle took off. His -21% rush yards over expected from Week 7 on were way out of character. Then in the NFL Playoffs, Hubbard returned as the alpha with 17 opportunities and 2 touchdowns. Now what? Well, the Panthers let Dowdle walk for not a lot of money this offseason, leaving Hubbard competing with former 2nd-rounder Jonathan Brooks who is coming off of his 2nd ACL tear. Hubbard has been effective when healthy and he's just that right now, but Brooks has a lot of theoretical talent if his knee cooperates. Hubbard still is the projected starter early as a captain and trusted veteran, and we've seen very real RB2 stretches out of him. There's just no floor with the staff so quick to throw him aside. It's more fun to be on the Brooks side of things, but Hubbard types have hit at sunken ADPs recently with far less hype. The Panthers' OL is going through changes, and they might end up being more pass-heavy in 2026 with better WRs. If okay with the risk, Hubbard projects as a slight win player at an RB27 ADP looking at baseline projections.
