Higgins' craftiness as a route runner makes him a fantasy football sleeper

Hayden's Analysis

Higgins isn't going to win track meets, but he did a lot of real WR stuff as a rookie and has been touted by DeMeco Ryans for getting in better shape during his sophomore offseason. Ryans' old school style kept Higgins off the field for too long, but from Week 8 on when he was a near full-time player, Higgins was the WR42 on WR36 usage in half PPR. Higgins only averaged 7.6 yards per target in a struggling offense, and there are some areas on Higgins' tape that will end up capping his ceiling. He's not sudden after the catch, so he didn't see a single screen after Week 8. He also won't break a ton of tackles or carve up defenses on crossing routes. But Higgins used tempo and leverage to his advantage as a route runner. He parlayed that into sideline grabs that required toe drags and others into middle of the field grabs that required toughness and a big frame (6'4"/215). He is definitely billed as a possession receiver who can play both spots on the boundary as a clear-cut WR2 in an offense. Veterans in this mold include Michael Pittman Jr., Courtland Sutton, Michael Wilson, and Romeo Doubs. All of them are best off as twos but can rack up fantasy points in games where they need to be ones. Higgins speed isn't horrific either. He really opened up on a 75-yard TD for example, so it's more about his short-area burst than his agility or long speed. The floor seems very high after just one season, and I'd be surprised if an injured Tank Dell or small slot Jaylin Noel are real threats for his snaps. Ultimately, he is a low-end WR4 with some second-year leap upside. That's what I call a fantasy football sleeper.
