Monangai's energy and balance earned him every other drive as a rookie
The four drops were pretty painful, but Monangai can do a lot of things at a serviceable level despite being a mediocre athlete with mediocre size. He gets there by just being a total savage. Monangai lowers his shoulder, dishes out contact, and then has the balance and will to stay on his feet for the extra couple of yards. This happens in short yardage, when backed up in their own end zone, and even with 40 seconds left while down 31 points. His energy is hard to ignore in ways similar to Isiah Pacheco, but Monangai is far more in control. There are moments were Monangai plays heads up football, like in this rep: He is not as fluid as D'Andre Swift is, and Swift really did improve with his vision in an outside zone system behind a stellar RG + RT combo. It'd be a surprise if Swift was overtaken by Monangai in 2026, but the gap has firmly closed between the two. Even in the NFL Playoffs, Monangai was rotating drives with Swift en route to about 40% snaps and 40% touches. That's enough to hang in RB3 land during bye weeks and gives him a clear pathway to upside RB2 territory if Swift ever misses time.
