Shaheed signs $51M deal as Seahawks' sleeper WR2

Hayden's Analysis

Shaheed did next to nothing as a receiver after the Seahawks traded a 3rd-round pick for him. Since then, they signed him to a 3-year, $51M contract, which was actually more than Super Bowl MVP's Kenneth Walker's deal with the Chiefs. The Seahawks essentially said Shaheed is more valuable moving forward. That seems crazy on the surface, but Shaheed was a real weapon on the Saints, provides very real special teams value, and fits in with Sam Darnold very well as a downfield and deep out player. It'd be stunning if Shaheed's volume was anywhere near the 4.4-2.4-30-0 receiving line he had from Week 10 through the Super Bowl on the Seahawks. Adjusting to an already-humming offense midseason is difficult. The better baseline should be what he was doing with the Saints from 2024-2025. Shaheed averaged 7.1-4.3-57-0.3 across 15 games next to Chris Olave with injured Derek Carr and Spencer Rattler as his QB. Those numbers were WR38 on WR30 usage in half PPR, with obvious spike weeks for best ball specifically. He's currently drafted as the WR57. Just as interesting as those splits is the Seahawks depth chart. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is going to dominate targets again, but beyond him, the next Seahawks' pass-catcher is Shaheed at 137th overall on Underdog. Among the WR/TE2 on a team, only the Dolphins, Raiders, and Commanders have a player drafted lower. That's insane for an offense that was just 2nd in scoring (29.2 points per game) and 10th in passing yards (225.1). What happens if JSN misses time? 33-year-old Cooper Kupp in this economy?? Shaheed looks like a median outcome slight win with the contingent upside of an every-week starter. That's the profile of a fantasy football sleeper, especially when his tape is as exhilarating as his. It helps to hear ESPN's Jeremy Fowler report that "Rashid Shaheed had a major spring. He and Sam Darnold are hitting it off… They’re going to give more short and intermediate stuff to him. He’s going to be a big time player for Seattle."
